POSCO 'high manganese steel production processes, technology commercialization

[Hyomun financial newspaper reporters standing in Korea] POSCO succeeded in "high manganese steel production process, commercialization of technology with molten manganese ferroalloys. This year, POSCO has developed the technology and appeared one after another followed in February lithium commercial production utilizing proprietary technology for the first time in Korea.

Said POSCO Research Institute has 12 days to complete the testing of commercial production, high-manganese steel manganese alloy production process using a molten iron, and finally transferred to the equipment and operating business in Gwangyang plate section. High manganese production process, POSCO has developed and utilized the facilities 'PosLM (POSCO Liquid Manganese)' with a special insulation that can keep the manganese ferroalloys in molten state.

Whilst high manganese steel is steel making process has produced a melt of the solid state of manganese in the alloy steel (to remove the impurities in the molten iron from the blast furnace process and to impart specific properties) to the molten bath. Accordingly, additional energy costs and process times were no way of manganese oxide generated in the process of melting, there was a disadvantage that the converter inside the refractory material is seriously worn. POSCO plans to apply innovative steel products, such as high manganese steel toughness through the production of steels for cryogenic tanks for LNG, energy transport abrasion resistant steel and non-steel enclosure for the transformer.

POSCO has developed this technology, as well as starting the last two lithium commercial production utilizing the proprietary technology in January. This operation had 2500 tons of scale production capacity. President Kwon Ohjun Li POSCO ranked as one of the growth engines work since taking office, and has said it would grow to a leadership position in the global market.
